Description

I hope this helps. It's my first repaint, so I don't quite know what I'm doing. Feel free to ask questions. Link to the original painting.

It took 1.5 hours to do.

1. Light

The light source in the original picture was unclear. I thought the white ball in the background looked like the moon. That meant the picture would be back-lit. I found a reference for back lighting and made a shape that seemed close in a dark red layer set to multiply.

2. Hair

Hair is naturally shiny. I added a basic reflection to the hair. If I wanted more detail, I could have broken it up. I also used the main colour for the hair to draw the strands in front of her face so it was clear they were hair.

3. Skin and Lines

I'm not sure if the shadows make her skin look too dark. The chin should be sharper in my version. I also failed on the ear.

One of the things I liked with this is the colour of the shadows. Shadows generally look better when they aren't gray. I used a dark red.

I didn't draw most of the original lines. That was due to laziness on my part. I'm not too experienced with sketchy art styles, so I can't help too much with that.

4. Background

The background was interesting. I basically selected the black area and painetd it on. The gradiant is essentially the same, but I used a grayish-red on the top and a brighter red on the bottom to make it look like a hazy sky.

5. Eyes

After looking up double pupils, I drew a darker outline for the edge of the eyes. I think this helps the shape of the eyes stand out more. In the future, you could colour the pupils with a dark green instead of a black to make the pupils stand out.

I forgot to add the eyelashes. Sorry.

This is pretty much how improvement-club works, and you can submit it to the proper corrected folder, if you so wish!
